Acupressure for Stress

Acupressure for Stress

Acupressure is a useful tool when acute symptoms arise. Generally points can be massaged in a clockwise motion, with slow pulses or a firm pressure for 1-2 minutes multiple times a day. For long term conditions, you’ll want to take the next step and receive a comprehensive acupuncture treatment to address the root cause of your concerns.

  • Yintang

    Hall of Impression

Known as the third eye in many traditional philosophies, this point is used for insomnia, anxiety, frontal headaches and agitation. It can also be used to stimulate blood flow to the eyes after a long day of computer or phone use. Gently rub towards your scalp with your finger or gua sha tool for 30-60 seconds.

  • Anmian

    Peaceful Sleep

This special point is located just behind the ears. Apply calming essential oils such as lavender to your hands and rub this point in clockwise circles for 1-2 minutes to help with insomnia or restless sleep.

  • Liver 3- Taichong

    Great Rushing

If you’re feeling irritable, angry, tense and overwhelmed or are experiencing PMS, this is your point! Located between the first and second toes, this point will likely ache when pressed deeply. Don’t be afraid to really get in there. Hold this point or rub clockwise for 1-2 minutes.

  • Buddha's Triangle

    Lung 9, Pericardium 6, Heart 7

This trifecta includes points that support stress that induces panic-like symptoms such as racing heart, shallow breathing and stomach discomfort. Apply lotion or oil to the inside of your wrist and rub clockwise in a large circle for 1-2 minutes.

  • Large Intestine 4- Hegu

    Joining Valley

If stress typically manifests as headache or tension in the face, jaw, neck or entire body, give this point a try. You’ll want to press this point deeply for 1-2 minutes. For optimal results, pair with Liver 3. **Contraindicated in pregnancy
